Deep learning involves the critical analysis of new ideas, linking them to already known concepts and principles, and leads to understanding and long-term retention of concepts so that they can be used for problem solving in unfamiliar contexts.

It promotes understanding and application for life. In contrast, surface learning is the tacit acceptance of information and memorization as isolated and unlinked facts. It leads to superficial retention of material for examinations and does not promote understanding or long-term retention of knowledge and information.

A huge problem though is that most students experience superficial or surface learning. This is often because they experience a sense of extrinsic motivation, sometimes pressure from a teacher, to show they understand the work.

Although, the aim is that we learn form each others' contributions. We can then add our own thoughts on the topics. There is the also the opportunity to liase with members or class mates about topics that are difficult or we can provide sites and use blogs such as these to provide material and sites which can enhance our learning and understanding. Also through trial and error when using sites we can differentiate which sites are effective and most helpful to our learning.

In doing this we may be able to help teach others which in turns describes how much we have learnt.
